Headland heads to world series using loss as motivation

This year, it was more about team than any one individual.

"The boys have gelled together, when one is down they pick each other up, they play as one unit. There were a lot of tears still this year, but it was tears of joy instead of being sad and hurt and disappointed like last year."

Last year's loss served as motivation.

"It was horrible, it felt like someone grabbed a knife and killed you. it felt good because knowing they were the state champs last year and they just beat us last year and then we beat them."

"I'm excited about representing Alabama and Headland and going to the world series. It was amazing, Tt was unbelievable. I had a hard time believing it."

Coach Wilkerson knows this is a chance of a lifetime

"I'm most excited for the kids to have the opportunity to play in the world series. I never got that opportunity that you do."

The core of this team is baseball, bats, and blessings

"Before every game we have a team meeting. We go over Bible verses we pray. Before they take the field they pray, before they leave the field. That's a huge part of our team and it's a testament to who they are and how they live."

Headland will play its first game at the world series on Saturday at 7:30 against Virginia.
