With the first pitch at 9 a.m. Friday morning, the Wiregrass Cardinals Red squad took on the Birmingham Baseball 17 team in a game that saw the Cards fall 90 feet short of victory.
Things started off good for Birmingham. They put up two runs in the top of the first to take the early lead.
The Cards put up two runs in the fourth to tie things up. Just one inning later, Birmingham retook the lead on a one-run single, bringing the score to 3-2.
Down to their final out in the bottom of the 7th, the Cardinals were able to get a run across the board to tie up the game. With a runner at third, they were just one base hit from victory. However, the final batter popped up for the third out and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
The 19U team took on Southern Prospects 17 in the afternoon. The Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to a strong four-run second inning. The Prospects chipped away at the lead and got it to 4-2 until the 5th when the Cardinals scored three runs thanks to a bases clearing double by Tyler Crouch. They would go on to take a 7-6 win.
