Even though the Trojans don't play their opening round game until Thursday the team departed for Bowling Green, Kentucky today. Troy plays the first of their three games in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Thursday at 11 a.m. against Florida International University.
The Golden Panthers (31-23, 15-14) swept the Trojans when they met back in early April. Troy head coach Bobby Pierce has never had a losing season at Troy, dating back to 2003.
Troy was picked to finish first in the Sunbelt conference in a preseason poll but due to injuries and various ups and downs Pierce said they're fortunate to even be Kentucky-bound.
"We were in 10th place for a long time. So yeah, absolutely, we're thrilled that we're in it. Now everything's even, nobody has advantages just who wins the game," said Pierce.
Tyler Ray is the expected starter on the mound for the Trojans Thursday. The Trojans play again on Friday against Arkansas State on Friday at 3 p.m.
