Five years ago, Providence Christian didn't even have a golf team, now they're state champs. Senior Ryan Benton can call himself a two-time champ...winning with his team and as an individual...
"We came really close the past three years and it's good to win the past year and we've been waiting a long time and it's a good way to go out," Benton said.
The school held a celebration today featuring the golf team and Alison Burns, who captured a state track championship...as a freshman.
"Actually I didn't know I was first, it was really close in the 400," Burns said. "My coach came up to me and said 'you won' and I was like 'really?' I didn't know. It's kind of a shock, it still hasn't settled in, the fact that I won state that's kind of weird. It was a great experience."
It wraps up an impressive year for the Eagles, who also captured a state title in Volleyball, and saw their girl's basketball team play for a region championship
"Hopefully that inspires the younger kids that are here today and that they want to stay and work hard and have great things happen too," Headmaster and Golf Coach Emory Latta said.
"Our school's been known for our runner-up trophies in state and I want to thank the volleyball team for breaking that curse at the beginning of the year so we can all start winning now."
