AUBURN, AL, 12/07/2013: Members of Northview High School’s Swim Team competed against the top swimmers in the state this weekend at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s 2013 Swimming and Diving State Meet held at Auburn University’s James. E. Martin Aquatics Center where nine state records fell as athlete from across the state competed for individual and team honors.
Nothview’s team was anchored by Junior Natalie Faulk, Sophomores Han Zhang and Fuller McMillan, Caver Middle School eight graders Sam Conner, Bayley Blackmon, Morgan Bull and Eden McMillan and Carver Middle School seventh graders Wen Zhang, Maci Olive and Blake Pynes. Although small in numbers and young compared to the field; NHS’s team performed well. NHS simmers qualified for the state finals in two events. Sophomore Han Zhang finished 9th in the state in the boys 200 Freestyle. In addition the girl’s 200 Freestyle Relay team comprised of Faulk, McMillan, Blackmon and Bull placed 14th.
The NHS squad, in its second year, trains under Coach John, long-time leader of Dothan Leisure Services’ Dolphins Swim Team and is led by Coach Jessica Noble, Northview’s Assistant AD. Northview Athletic Director and Head Football Coach LaBrian Stewart, who was fundamental in the team’s creation, traveled to Auburn to cheer on his squad. Stewart, impressed by the competitiveness of his team, commented, “this is a tough event with the best in the state, I am proud of how our athletes are competing”.
Auburn High School took home top team honors in the girls division while Huntsville High School won the boys division.
