George Bennett was stunned two years ago, when he was let go as Headland's Boys Basketball Coach. Now, Bennett is back in the area as the head coach of the one of the Rams biggest rivals.
Houston County named Bennett as it's new Boys Basketball Coach on Monday night. Bennett had already been hired as a teacher at the school.
He replaces Emanuel Brown, who resigned earlier this year after eight seasons as Lions Head Coach. Brown was approved as Dothan's new Boys Basketball Coach on Monday night.
Bennett takes over one of the area's top programs. Under Brown, the Lions put together six straight seasons of 20 wins or more, including a trip to the Class 2A State Championship Game in 2010.
Bennett spent two years at Headland, before being dismissed along with six other teachers in 2010. He led the Rams to a 34-24 record during his two-year tenure, including a 28-8 mark in 2010 and a trip to the 3A South Regional Tournament.
He spent the past two years as a middle school coach in Troy.
