KANSAS CITY -- Heading to Interleague Play this weekend in Pittsburgh, the Royals wanted another bat off the bench. On Thursday, they planned to add one by calling up first baseman Clint Robinson from Triple-A Omaha, effective Friday.

In 60 games with Omaha this season, Robinson has hit .314 with a .418 on-base percentage. He's also smacked eight home runs and driven in 37 runs. Robinson's first appearance will be his Major League debut after hitting .322 over two seasons in Triple-A.

Robinson was named a Pacific Coast League midseason and postseason All-Star last season after winning the Triple Crown in the Texas League in 2010. Clint Robinson has hit .314 with eight homers and 37 RBIs at Triple-A Omaha this season.

In a corresponding roster move, pitcher Ryan Verdugo will be optioned back to Omaha. Verdugo was called up to the Royals on Tuesday. He did not make an appearance in the time he was on the roster
