The Dothan Civic Center will have a new look later this year. The city is in the process of bidding for a new basketball floor and goals.
The new additions will replace the old floor and goals, which have been in place since the Civic Center opened in 1975.
With the South Regional Basketball Tournament coming to Dothan in February on 2013, the makeover was imperative. And, it's allowing the city to put itself in the mix to extend it's contract with the AHSAA beyond the original three-year terms.
"We've got a three-year contract," Larry Patrick from Dothan Leisure Services said. "We do have that. It's been extended to us, the possibility of extending that contract to six years, with some of the improvements we've agreed to make, and that we host a quality tournament. We feel confident that we will."
The new floor will cost $100,000, with the new goals set to run between $12-$16,000. The Dothan Convention and Visitor's Bureau plans to pick up half of that cost.
