Dothan--On a slightly damp, humid Pittman Field the head coach of Post 12 baseball, Larry Tubbs, says, "It's what we play for."
Tubbs was referring to the post season. The dozen are 37-6 heading into the sub-state playoffs at Birmingham Southern College.
"In 2010 we were the four seed, last year the three seed and this year we're the number one seed," said Tubbs.
"It definitely puts a bullseye on our backs, but we know we're the team to be," he said.
American Legion's Post 12 are the defending state champions. They've gone 8-2 this season against in-state teams.
Against their rival in Tuscaloosa, Post 34, the dozen are 2-2.
While downplaying any ego, Tubbs says he's been straight with the players.
"We told our kids the other day that we feel like we're the club to beat in this state tournament. In this case you gotta get the championship away from us. We're the team to beat," said Tubbs.
Post 12 opens play beginning Friday, July 27th against Chilton County Post 6 at four o'clock.
