The Dale County Football Team has a new head football coach, boys basketball coach and athletic director, and the school filled all three vacancies at one time.
Pate Harrison is taking over all three duties for the Warriors, after being approved by the Dale County School Board on Tuesday night.
Harrison comes to Midland City from Goshen, where he also wore multiple hats. He was the head baseball and boys basketball coach, as well as a football assistant.
He replaces Jeff Torrence, who resigned in June to become the assistant principal at Coppinville Junior High in Enterprise. Torrence was also the Warriors AD. Harrison also takes over for Chad McKnight in boys basketball, after McKnight left in June to become the new girls coach at Samson.
Harrison takes over a team that won just one game last season. He believes that can change if his team is ready to dedicate itself on and off the field.
"My only promise is to work hard," Harrison said. We want the kids to work hard, and never quit. We don't want to quit in anything that we do. We're not trying to preach winning. Winning comes from hard work."
Harrison has Dale County ties. His mother graduated from the school in the mid-70s, and his family is originally from Echo.
