Cottonwood senior Caleb Wooten signed to play football for Birmingham Southern today.
Wooten says he chose Birmingham Southern because of academics, not just football.
The Panthers are looking at Wooten for either wide receiver or cornerback roles.
Coach Greene says that one of Wooten's best assets on the football field is his speed, whether on offense or defense.
And the Cottonwood coach says, Wooten just has a special ex-factor.
"Probably the biggest thing that Caleb offered our team was that Caleb had that woo factor. He puts a big hit, and the crowd gets a good woo and awws and I really expect him to do that at the next level. " Green shares.
Wooten was impressed by the academics at Birmingham Southern, which helped him make his final decision.
"It feels really good you know, it's a great opportunity for me to further my education and play football."
Coach Greene says Wooten knows all about what life without football. Wooten missed some time throughout his high school career due to injury, but he persevered.
"He's our leader on defense, led our team in tackles, had a couple of interceptions, played through injury. Proud of him for playing through injury. He had a shoulder injury, he had a cast on his hand in several games, so it shows a lot about Caleb's character. Caleb had to sit out last year, missed his junior season due to a collar bone injury but worked through it, came back and had a great senior season for us.
