Tyler Vaughn Named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American

TROY, Ala. – Troy shortstop Tyler Vaughn has been named to the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American team selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Vaughn was named to the third team and is one of just two Sun Belt Conference players selected to the list. Last year's first team All-Sun Belt selection was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team in 2013 and was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given annually to the nation's top shortstop.

The senior from Murphy, N.C., started all 62 games for the Trojans last season batting .327 with 20 doubles and 26 RBIs. Vaughn finished as the second toughest player in the country to strike out, averaging one strikeout per 25.7 at bats. Vaughn struck out just 10 times in 257 at bats. He would lead the Trojans with 26 multi-hit games and was fourth national with 72 runs scored. Equally impressive, Vaughn committed just five errors in 280 chances last season for a .982 fielding percentage.

As a sophomore in 2012, Vaughn was named Louisville Slugger Player of the Week after batting .800 (8-for-10) with three doubles, five RBIs and five runs scored. During that span he reached base in 10 consecutive plate appearances.

Troy opens the 2014 season with a four-game series at Riddle-Pace Field against Northern Kentucky set for Feb. 14-16.
