TROY, Ala. – The Troy women’s basketball program and head coach Chanda Rigby announced the addition on Starr Breedlove on Monday. Breedlove comes to Troy after spending the 2013-14 season at Louisville.
A 5-foot-6 point guard from Teaneck, N.J., Breedlove played in just nine games for Louisville last season due to injury. She played in three of the Cardinal’s four NCAA Tournament games as Louisville advanced to the Elite Eight.
Breedlove will have to sit out the 2014-15 season at Troy and will have one season of eligibility remaining when she takes the court in 2015-16.
“Adding Starr to our roster is another step towards our goals in the women’s basketball program at Troy,” Rigby said. “Gaining a transfer like Starr from a top program will elevate our competition level at practice everyday, as well as our competitiveness in the Sun Belt Conference. We are thrilled to welcome Starr Breedlove to our Trojan family.”
Breedlove averaged nearly five minutes per game for Louisville and posted season-highs with 11 minutes and four points in the Cardinals win over Houston to open the American Athletic Conference Championships.
She started her collegiate career at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, in 2011-12. There she was the starting point guard for a Lady Cardinals team that went undefeated and won the NJCAA National Championship.
She averaged 9.4 points, 6.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game for Trinity Valley and played under current Troy assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Courtney Simmons.
Breedlove was a high school standout at DePaul Catholic High School in New Jersey before beginning her career at Trinity Valley.
The Trojans are currently preparing for an early-August trip to Italy where they will play two games during an eight-day tour. To follow the Trojans on their trip, search for #TrojansInItaly on Twitter or visit TroyTrojans.com.
