TROY, Ala. - Troy University shortstop Tyler Vaughn has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday afternoon.

Vaughn, a repeat honoree, is the 12th student-athlete in Troy history to earn Academic All-America honors and the first different athlete since Kevin Weidlich in 2007. The Murphy, N.C., native took home Capital One Academic All-America First Team last year and was just the sixth Trojan to earn Academic All-America First Team honors.

Vaughn graduated this month with a degree in chemistry with a 3.92 grade-point average. He was named 2013 All-Sun Belt First Team, 2013 Capital One Academic All-American First Team and a Brooks Wallace Award Finalist. In 2012, he was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week after finishing the week 8-for-10 with three doubles.

Vaughn finished his career with a .302 batting average and struck out just 35 times in 593 at bats. He scored 115 runs and had 179 hits in 165 career games.
