The Troy Trojans football team has held 12 practices in ten days. Saturday Troy held their first scrimmage of the fall and coach Blakeney said he was looking for guys to play hard and play physical.
And one Trojan that lived up to expectations was Brandon Burks. The former Daleville standout running back had a stand out day today. Burks had two touchdowns this afternoon and he also blocked a punt. Last week we asked him what his biggest challenge was at the college level and he said it's tough adjusting to the speed. Today the players had to adjust to his quickness, and he shared his thoughts after the scrimmage.
"Oh you know, I feel good. Ya know, the plays are comin. I just gotta get used to, the game, game speed. High school, coming from high school to college, it's totally different. The plays are comin, coach's teaching me. I'm tryin to discipline myself, tryin to take the playbook home. But ya know, it's it's. I feel pretty good,” Burks said.
Even with a Senior-led backfield, coach Blakeney and staff say they look forward to using Burks as often as possible this season.
Junior Safety Cameron Hudson intercepted Corey Robinson in the end zone and returned it 100-yards for a touchdown. According to coach Blakeney, Corey Robinson will be troy's starting quarterback. Blakeney says Junior Deon Anthony will play too.
"From a personal standpoint, ya know, I'd give myself a "c" and ya know, because of that interception that I had, I missed him. This game's a game of inches, you know, I barely missed him over the inside and the guy made a good play,” Robinson said. “But other than that I had a pretty good day, overthrew a couple guys here and there but that's all a part of gelling, learning guys speeds and all that kind of good stuff."
