Opening Statement

We're probably fortunate enough to sit here with a W. It was an event where we never gave up. We didn't play very good in some spots, especially on defense early. Some busted coverages gave up big plays. Some of those things we got to get under control and rectify. Down 16 points late in the fourth and making a run to get the last 17, it was pretty dramatic. We got our starting quarterback out and Deon Anthony did a great job, not perfect, but doing a great job doing the things he does. We were without Kyle Wilborn for a half due to the suspension we made ourselves as a University. I know we won on a last second kick, but we had half the yards in penalties. We were under 50, six for 43, still with one or two that we could have avoided. But, they had over 100 yards in penalties which there is a great advantage in field position inside those yards and you get to add the kicking game up, and with exception of one or two little boo-boos in the kicking game, we had a great day in the kicking game including the last second field goal. Will told me he felt the wind in his face the first time and they iced him and then he lined up and he felt the wind at his back. It wasn't a wide-margin of crossing the bar, but it got over. Mario Cristobal is a really fine coach. They have really good players. I still predict they will have something to say about this league.

If you look at FAU on tape, they remind you of FIU. Defensively they are very aggressive and they will come after you and pressure your quarterback. We will try to have a plan for that, including our special teams.

It was a great win. We needed it badly. It keeps us in the hunt for conference and for bowls, but we got to keep winning.”

Status of QB Corey Robinson

Corey practiced yesterday and he looked sharp. He's on the trip for sure and if he is able to go he will be the starter.

On picking up first home win of the season

Well we finally won a home game. It always has to with who you are playing, no matter where. We've some games on the road against some pretty good teams. I'm looking forward to this trip with our team and our coaches. We are going to do our best to put together a great plan with our folks in all three phase and try to win the game.

On new FAU coaching staff

You got to plan for what you see scheme-wise and try to be able to attack and defend what they do. They present themselves defensively pretty aggressive. If we execute that should play into our hands somewhat, if we don't execute then it plays into theirs. They had a great game against South Alabama, fought hard and they (South Alabama) pulled it out late. We've got to make sure we don't beat ourselves and do a good job coaching and playing.

On Troy's fourth quarter comeback

You would hope from confidence you can get a lot out of it. I don't think we had anyone give up. Some things had to happen, but before anything good happened, something bad had to happen. I'm really proud of the steps we've made on being better with the penalties. The things I talk to them about every week as a team, I gave FIU the benefit of the doubt but we won the turnover battle, the penalty battle, the special teams battle and the fourth quarter.

On one word to describe Troy

Persistence, maybe. We've talked about the old saying that this is a journey; it's not something it's going to be to be over real quick. You have to be ready for the long haul. If you're persistent, you'll have a chance.

On overlooking Florida Atlantic

Well we don't need to be stupid. If you look at the tape and check these cats out, you can see they can win a game, they can beat us and they can beat anybody the play. We're 4-3, I don't know how you could look over anybody. We're trying to get bowl-eligible and to championship-caliber.

On FAU first-year head coach Carl Pelini

I've followed them as brothers as coaches at Nebraska. He didn't get this job because he's not a good coach. He's got credentials. He'll apply his philosophies to this team, to recruiting and I got a good idea it will continue to improve. There are a lot of good coaches across the field from us and I think he will have to be a guy to be contended with as we go throughout the Sun Belt.
