TROY, Ala. – Troy’s 24th season under legendary head coach Larry Blakeney officially gets underway Thursday when the Trojans open fall camp after 105 student-athletes reported to campus on Tuesday.
The Trojans will practice from approximately 8:30-11 a.m. until school starts on August 13 when they will start at 3:45 p.m. Practices are open to the public and will take place on the practice fields behind Tine Davis Fieldhouse. Troy will scrimmage on back-to-back Saturdays (Aug. 9 & 16) in Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Troy enters the 2014 season picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference after coming off a 6-6 campaign a year ago. However, expectations within the program are set higher than that as the Trojans are eying their Sun Belt record sixth conference title in the past nine years.
“We’ve got a room full of folks, we just need to find out how they all fit together and we don’t have a long time to get it done,” Blakeney said. “I’m looking forward to getting started tomorrow and seeing what we’ve got. Hopefully there will not be too many distractions and injuries that every team has to deal with this time of year.”
Fall camp will feature many position battles with the most high-profiled competition coming at the quarterback position. Troy must replace four-year starter Corey Robinson, who owns multiple Troy, Sun Belt and NCAA records. Redshirt freshman Brandon Silvers and junior college transfer Dontreal Pruitt were the leaders coming out of the spring, but returning junior Dallas Tidwell and JUCO transfer Connor Bravard still have an opportunity to win the job.
The good news for whoever wins the starting quarterback job is that he will have eight returning starters surrounding him, including a veteran offensive line anchored by All-Sun Belt tackle Terrence Jones. Troy has led the Sun Belt in passing offense in four of the past five seasons and led the league in total offense and scoring a year ago.

Troy opens the 2014 season at in-state rival UAB on Aug. 30 at Legion Field. Kickoff between the Trojans and Blazers is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live on Fox College Sports.
