The Trojans went in full pads during the morning session and spent a good bit of the time working on special teams in both practices. Troy returns to the practice turf Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. for one practice as the Trojans are working towards their first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Troy will hold its annual Fan Day on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. on the west concourse of Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Trojan Warriors Club will be providing free food and drinks to all those in attendance.

Troy has won a share of five of the past six Sun Belt Conference titles and is the only school to represent the league in five bowl games. Troy has 11 more Sun Belt victories than any other school in the league since the Trojans joined the Sun Belt in 2004. The Trojans also have a Sun Belt leading 84 all-conference selections and 38 first team all-conference selections over that same time period.

The Trojans open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at in-state rival UAB in Legion Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the game will be televised live by Fox College Sports.

Season tickets for Troy's record six home games are available for purchase by logging on to or by calling 1-877-878-WINS. Fans can also purchase tickets to Troy's six road games through the Troy ticket office.

Head Coach Larry Blakeney

“I think that we had two good practices today. We had a light one today with a lot of special teams and things we needed to cover. You can only do so much these days. Two-a-days are sort of a thing of the past. You only get two when you start school as early as we do. We are trying to maximize the learning part in the afternoon and get into some special teams. I think we'll have a better day tomorrow because of that.

On the defense

“We are a little deeper at all positions. We are emphasizing being physical and hopefully that is taken in by the players. I think that we are better. It looks like we are better in the secondary, we are better in underneath coverages and we are finding some guys who can give us some help defensively.”

Offensive lineman Kyle Wilborn

On the defense
“They (defense) definitely showed up again today too so as an offense we need to step up our game. I really like what they are doing; from the scheme the defense put in and their whole different mentality on that side of the ball. They are really aggressive and they showed out today.

“Up front (defensive line) we have some new faces and they have a new attitude that is a completely different change from last year. I'm really impressed with how hard they are working.

On the offensive line

“We have some big holes to fill with the loss of Zach Swindall and James Brown. Jared Flemming has stepped in and filled James' role great and he's been working hard and Andrew (Phillips) has also been working hard. On the right side we have Terrence (Jones) and Zach Johnson who have come leaps and bounds from last year and you can definitely tell the game experience that they have had. As a group, I think this is the closest offensive line we've had in years.

On the difference between this year's team and last year's team
“It's a night and day difference.”
