Troy Baseball Looks to Build Momentum as WKU Visits Riddle-Pace Field

TROY, Ala. – The Troy baseball team will look to build off its Wednesday night win over Alabama A&M as Western Kentucky visits Riddle-Pace Field for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series set to start Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday’s game is set for 6 p.m. with Sunday’ finale scheduled for 1 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on WTBF 94.7 FM and streamed live on TroyTrojans.com.

Troy (17-17, 4-7 SBC) defeated Alabama A&M 9-6 on the back of a 4-for-5 performance from second baseman Garrett Pitts. Southpaw Levi Tate turned in five strong innings in relief allowing two runs on just two hits and striking out a career-high eight batters. Ben Tidwell picked up his first career save in the contest.

Western Kentucky (18-15, 6-6) was rained out on Tuesday, but is coming off a series win over Arkansas State last weekend. The Hilltoppers enter the series having won four of its last five games.

Tanner Hicks (2-5, 3.76) will get the nod in Friday’s opener for Troy. The Trojans are looking on improve on their 2-6 mark in Friday games this season. In contrast, Troy is 5-1 on Sunday. The Trojan offense will face RHP Justin Hageman (3-1, 2.49), who was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week following a complete-game performance against Texas State on Mar. 21 in which he allowed just one unearned run on four hits.

A pair of lefties will face off on Saturday as Shane McCain (3-3, 2.67) and Austin Clay (4-2, 5.23) take the mound. McCain had his streak on eight consecutive quality starts snapped last weekend against UL Lafayette. Clay tossed five innings against Arkansas State allowing three runs in his last outing.

Offensively, Pitts is batting .390 (16-for-41) with six double and eight RBIs in his last 10 games. David Hall leads the Trojans with a .333 average and six home runs and is batting .455 (20-for-44) in conference play including a pair of home runs and 10 RBIs.

Troy is 22-13 all-time against Western Kentucky including an 11-6 mark at Riddle-Pace Field.
