Troy Baseball Faces Jacksonville State to Open Homestand

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team returns to Riddle-Pace Field for a five-date homestand beginning Tuesday as the Trojans welcome Jacksonville State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

Troy (10-8, 1-1 SBC) saw one game against South Alabama rained out over the weekend. The teams split the other two games. Senior pitcher Tanner Hicks was rewarded for his effort in Friday night’s win over the Jaguars as he was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Hicks tossed a shutout in earning the victory.

The Trojans will resume a suspended game against Alabama State on Wednesday before playing a regularly scheduled nine-inning game with the Hornets. ULM will travel to Troy over the weekend.

Jacksonville State (11-8, 4-2 OVC) enters the game having dropped two of three games to conference foe SIU Edwardsville. As a team, the Gamecocks are batting .275 with a 4.19 team ERA. In limited action, Stephen Bartlett is batting .591 while Andrew Bishop leads the regulars with a .333 average with 12 RBIs.

David Hall leads the Trojans with a .365 average while Trevin Hall trails just slightly with a .342 mark at the dish. Jesse Nelson will likely get the start on the mound; he is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA. Through 10 innings, Nelson has struck out eight batters and walked just two. Troy is batting .249 as a team with a 2.84 ERA.

The Trojans have faced Jacksonville State more than any other opponent in program history. Tuesday will mark the 134th meeting between the schools with Troy holding an 81-52 advantage including a 43-23 record at Riddle-Pace Field.
