Sun Belt Conference Announces Championship Host Schools

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced a number of its championship sites for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years on Wednesday morning.

The 2014-15 championship slate previously was announced with the exception of the Sun Belt Conference’s first men’s soccer championship in nearly two decades. Georgia Southern will host the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Championship at Eagle Field to award the conference’s first NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship automatic bid since the 1996 fall season.

The 2015 fall championship season will kick-off at Georgia State with the Cross Country and Women’s Soccer Championships heading to Atlanta, Ga., in the fall. Appalachian State hosts its first Sun Belt Conference Championship when it hosts the 2015 Men’s Soccer tournament. The Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships return to the Lakefront Arena in 2016 and will be hosted by the conference.

The 2016 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships return to UL Lafayette after it hosted the event in 2013. South Alabama also welcomes back the Softball Championship after it hosted the tournament in 2010. Texas State is set to host its first Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship at Bobcat Ballpark in the 2016 season.

Troy University hosts the Cross Country and Women’s Soccer Championships to kick-off the fall championship season in 2016. Georgia State will host its first Sun Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Championship in 2016. UT Arlington is set to host its first Sun Belt Conference championship since joining the conference when it hosts the 2016 Volleyball Championship.

Appalachian State hosts its second Sun Belt Conference Championship when the 2017 Softball tournament takes place at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium in Boone, N.C. The Mountaineers then host the Outdoor Track & Field Championship that same spring.

The spring wraps up with Georgia Southern hosting its second Sun Belt Championship with the Baseball tournament set to be played at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.

Dates and times of future Sun Belt Conference Championship will be announced at a later date.
