TROY, Ala. – Troy junior outfielder Jo-El Bennett has been named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week as announced by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday.
Bennett was 3-for-5 with three home runs and six RBIs in Troy's 14-4 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
Bennett hit a solo home run in the second inning, a 2-run shot in the fourth and a 3-run blast in the eighth to lead the Trojans. Bennett also sent a deep fly ball to the center field warning track in another at-bat but it was tracked down for an out. Bennett became the first Trojan to hit three home runs in a game since Adam Bryant did it on April 8, 2009 against Samford. Bennett also scored a pair of runs as a pinch runner earlier in the series.
The selection marks the fourth consecutive year that a Troy Trojan has been selected as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week (Logan Pierce 2011, Tyler Vaughn 2012, Danny Collins 2013).
The Trojans will host Central Michigan in a four-game series beginning on Friday at 6p.m.
