Troy Baseball Defeats New Orleans; Earns 800th win at Riddle-Pace Field

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University baseball team won its 800th game at Riddle-Pace Field on Saturday with a 3-1 decision over New Orleans.

Shane McCain (3-1) extended his scoreless streak to 14 innings as he tossed seven frames allowing just four hits and striking out eight. McCain has now allowed just one earned run in his last 17 innings on the mound. Garrett Pitts was 3-for-4 on the day, extending his hitting streak to nine games; he has also reached base in all 15 games this season.

Troy (8-7) and New Orleans (4-8) were deadlocked in a scoreless tie until Nick Masonia doubled down the left field line in the sixth to score Matthew Howard for the game's first run. Three batters later, Adam Tewksbury drew a bases loaded walk to give the Trojans a 2-0 advatage.

Trevin Hall gave Troy an insurance run in the seventh. Hall singled to lead off the inning, then stole second and third before Howard hit a deep fly ball to right field to plate Hall.

Marc Skinner pitched two innings and worked around some trouble in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.

The win snaps a three-game skid for the Trojans and sets up a rubber game with New Orleans on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and left-hander Ben Tidwell (0-0, 2.38) is expected to make his first career start on the mound.
