SEC Releases 2013 Community Service Team

Birmingham, Ala. – In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men's basketball for the 2012-13 season.

This marks the 15th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men's basketball as well as for women's basketball. All 20 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.

Levi Randolph– Alabama So. | G | 6-5 | 205 | Madison, Ala.

Levi Randolph participated in a summer long clean-up projects for the April 27 tornado in the Holt community, assisted in Sarrell Dental free basketball camp for under-privileged children and he has also participated with Halloween Extravaganza for young children for two straight years … He is a SAAC representative … 2013 CoSIDA/Capitol One Academic First Team All-District, Dean’s List every semester, SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll (2012).

Kikko Haydar – Arkansas Jr. | G | 5-10 | 165 | Fayetteville, Ark.

Volunteered at Youth Bridge, an organization that provides care to troubled teens and their families; the Arkansas Children’s Hospital; and the Razorback Canned Food Drive … Participated in the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club Backpack/School supplies giveaway … Part of the Razorback basketball team’s involvement with Make a Wish … Took part in the Champions for Kids walk … Assists with the Special Olympics … Mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters ... Member of the Honors College at the University and is a Bodenhamer Fellow (the highest academic honor bestowed on a University student) … Distinguished speaker for the groundbreaking of the new honors college.

Josh Wallace – Auburn Sr. | G | 5-9 | 175 | Pensacola, Fla.

Josh has spent numerous hours volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County, where he has mentored children, assisted with homework, read to classes, assisted with lunches, and spoken to them about the importance of being physically active and making smart decisions … Visits Pediatrics and the Cancer Center at East Alabama Medical Center annually .. Participated in the Auburn Opelika Running and Track Association Two Mile Run for Breast Cancer Awareness … Serves as the Men’s Basketball representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) … Has spoken to several local youth basketball teams about making good decisions and making good grades … Very active in FCA, where he serves as a Leader, mentoring his teammates and other AU student-athletes, coordinates team Bible studies, participated in a camp for Student-Athletes from across the Southeast and has been a special guest at several FCA youth events.

Patric Young – Florida Jr. | C | 6-9 | 249 | Jacksonville, Fla.

Patric visits children at Shands at the University of Florida Hospital … Visits and speaking to children at local schools … A member of the Goodwill Gators, a community service program for student athletes at the University of Florida, collaborates with organizations around Alachua County in connecting with kids … Help with holiday gift drives to provide gifts for the less fortunate … 2013 Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team … 2012 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

John Florveus – Georgia Sr. | C | 6-11 | 240 | Miami, Fla.

Participated in Christmas shopping with a member of the Athens Boys and Girls Club ... Volunteer at the annual “Do It For Broph” 5K Run/Walk ... Read to and spoke about the importance of physical activity with school kids at Cedar Shoals Elementary School .. Volunteered at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia ... Member of the UGA Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for Fall Semester 2012.

Nerlens Noel – Kentucky Fr. | F | 6-10 | 228 | Everett, Mass.

Nerlens has given more than 100 hours of his time since his arrival at UK … Has worked as a mentor at the New England Child Services “MARK” mentoring program … Visited a nursing home in Lexington … Attended a Special Olympics autism event and signed autographs/took pictures … Interacted with kids and players at a Special Olympics Basketball event … Volunteered at a children’s basketball camp … UK men’s basketball coat drive … Promoted Lane Goodwin (child with cancer) through social media to help send well wishes to Lane and his family … Distributed sacks for the God’s Pantry Back Pack program … Hurricane Sandy Telethon worker … Visited a child with an illness at UK Children’s Hospital … Campton Elementary school/Samaritan’s Feet volunteer.

Andre Stringer – LSU Sr. | G | 5-10 | 182 | Jackson, Miss.

Andre participated in the Play Dirty Adventure Race at Baton Rouge Fair Grounds – a three mile run with obstacle courses and a fundraiser for childhood obesity … Also participated with team members in the Halloween BOOzar event that provided a safe holiday experience for local kids … Part of the team’s annual visit to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where the team sang Christmas carols and handed out basketball and posters to cheer the patients in the children’s ward up … Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative for men’s basketball.

Nick Williams – Ole Miss Sr. | G | 6-4 | 212 | Mobile, Ala.

Williams held basketball clinic for local Boy’s and Girl’s Club … Participated in ‘Move Mississippi’ to promote combat child obesity by educating youth and parents about the benefits of physical fitness and living a healthy lifestyle … Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee … Visited children at a local preschool to talk about importance of education and physical activity … Was also named to the 2012 SEC Community Service Team.

Tyson Cunningham – Mississippi State Jr. | G | 6-3| 194 | Columbus, Miss.

Tyson is extremely involved with kids in the community. He created the “Kids With Character” Basketball Camp at Columbus High School, and also works with ManHood Camp, which is designed for young boys to teach them how to grow up and be real men with character and standards. He also created the Lace-Up Program, which is for middle school kids centered toward academics in the summer and exposing them to different educational opportunities as well as enrichment activities. He is also active in Big Brother and serves as a volunteer and chaperon at various church camps and programs. He also travels to numerous churches to give his testimony or sing. He’s sang the national anthem at numerous MSU sporting events.

Laurence Bowers – Missouri Sr. | F | 6-8 | 227 | Memphis, Tenn.

Has been a consistent member of Missouri Basketball’s community relations efforts over the last five years volunteering for events such as: MU Children’s Hospital patient visits … MU Children’s Hospital charitable fundraisers … Elementary school read-a-thons … Youth mentoring events and youth basketball clinics sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia … Was also a major part of a 2011-12 Missouri Basketball team that played a charitable fund-raiser against Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., last season following a May 22, 2011, tornado that devastated southwest Missouri and killed more than 150 people.

Brian Richardson – South Carolina Jr. | G | 6-4 | 175 | Wilson, N.C.

Brian Richardson has spent time in the Columbia community on several service projects throughout his career. Richardson has participated in work at the Oliver Gospel Mission in Columbia … Spent time at exercise classes with senior citizens at Christopher Towers … Participated in the “Edlympics” at Edventure Museum … Light The Night Walk at Finlay Park … Spent time with Boy Scouts of Columbia following competition at Colonial Life Arena … Has helped serve dinner at Transitions Homeless Shelter … Helped with meal preparation at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia.

Kenny Hall – Tennessee Sr. | F | 6-9 | 230 | Stone Mountain, Ga.

One of Tennessee’s community outreach leaders, Hall attended the Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) Camp Out to combat homelessness … For three straight years, he has assisted with the annual Hoops for Hope basketball tournament that benefits the Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee … Has made multiple visits to area hospitals and clinics – such as UT Medical Center, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center – to visit with patients … Visited Gresham Middle School to recognize and encourage students who had exhibited academic improvement … Took to social media to show his support for Regen Morris, an East Tennessee 12-year-old who was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma (#RootinForRegen).

Jarod Jahns – Texas A&M Sr. | F | 6-6| 205 | Spring, Texas

Jarod participated in the Big Event (day-long community service project in the Bryan/College Station area) … Helped raise donations for Still Creek Boys and Girls Ranch (children’s home in Bryan, TX) … Participated in Aggies Can, a canned food drive in the Bryan/College Station area; Helper at King Ranch (weekend camp for children with disabilities) … Volunteered at Creekview Elementary Summer Day Camp; Member of Adopt-a-Mile cleanup crew … Visited schools that participate in a reading program in the Brazos Valley … Helped run a basketball camp at Lincoln Center for underprivileged youth; Participated in the “Nothing but Nets” program to help raise awareness and money for mosquito nets to fight malaria in Africa.

Eric McClellan– Vanderbilt Fr. | G | 6-4 | 180 | Austin, Texas

McClellan volunteers at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on a constant basis ... Participated in the SAAC Holiday Party for underprivileged children ... Also a frequent visitor to the Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital on the Vanderbilt campus.
