Mother of Auburn Fullback Jay Prosch Dies from Cancer

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- The mother of Auburn fullback Jay Prosch has died after a battle with cancer.

Auburn spokesman Kirk Sampson said that Iris Prosch's passed away Monday morning. Sampson had no other details.

Iris Prosch, who lived in Mobile, was diagnosed with in 2011 with glioblastoma multiforme, a grade 4 cancer. Jay Prosch transferred from Illinois to be closer to his mother and received a hardship waiver from the NCAA to play this season.

The 6-foot 260-pound Jay Prosch started for the Tigers in the opener against Clemson and cleared the way for several long gains as the lead blocker.

Iris Prosch said in an April e-mail to The Associated Press that "there really aren't words to express how comforting it is" to have her son close to home.
