AUBURN, Alabama -- Now that the quarterback race is narrowed down at Auburn, coach Gus Malzahn is hoping to name the starter no later than Monday. Malzahn says its possible he may choose the starter before their fourth scrimmage on Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The four-way battle was narrowed down this week. Jeremy Johnson and Nick Marshall are vying for the starting role. Sophomore Jonathan Wallace is still in the mix but a step behind the other two. Kiehl Frazier, who started five games last season, took himself out of the competition when he asked to move to safety.

Malzahn says it would've been ideal to have had a decision a week ago but he is now shooting for the Monday deadline. Only 16 days remain between now and the season opener against Washington State. Saturday will be the final major scrimmage of the pre-season. Malzahn says he has a pretty good feel for the quarterback depth chart now but there's still a few things they're figuring out.
