AUBURN, Alabama – The biggest misconception about Gus Malzahn, said a coach in Auburn today who was within for three years with the Tigers, is that people think he's more scholarly than hard-nosed, more flashy than basic football.

Auburn hired Malzahn as its head coach today following a successful 9-3 season at Arkansas State in his first year as a head coach. The assistant who was with him predicts a demanding coach will get off the plane tonight. He's returning to Auburn after serving as the Tigers' offensive coordinator from 2009-11 when his offense broke just about every school record.
