AUBURN, Alabama -- Newly-hired Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn released Gene Chizik's staff late Wednesday afternoon and told them that he planned to hire a new staff, beginning with the offensive and defensive coordinators.
The meeting was brief. Malzahn informed Auburn's assistants that he planned to start with the coordinator positions and move on from there.
"(He didn't say) much, that he's just hiring his offensive and defensive coordinator, and he's going to go from there," special teams coordinator Jay Boulware said. "He said if we were interested, he'd let his coordinators choose, so it is what it is."
Auburn's other assistant coaches declined to comment on the situation.
