AUBURN, Alabama -- Former Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen has signed a free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams.

Lutzenkirchen, a four-year contributor who was invited to the Combine and holds the Tigers' career record for touchdown catches by a tight end, expected to be picked at some point on Day 3 of the NFL Draft Saturday.

But he found a landing spot with the Rams almost as soon as the draft ended, although the wait was tough.

"Hard to believe there were 15-plus tight ends and 255-plus players better than me, but hey, God has a plan for me," Lutzenkirchen tweeted in shorthand not long after signing the contract. "I'm proud to get a shot with the St. Louis Rams."
