AUBURN - The Auburn women's basketball team (16-14) will head to the postseason in the first year of the Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy era as the Tigers were selected to the WNIT field Monday night. It is Auburn's fourth appearance all-time in the WNIT and its 22nd all-time postseason appearance.
The Tigers will open the tournament against in-state rival UAB (18-12), Wednesday at Auburn Arena. Hosting the WNIT marks the second time for Auburn Arena to be a postseason site as it hosted the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, Wednesday. Tickets for the game are available and are $10 for Reserved (Risers A, B, & C and Sections 101-104), $7 for General Admission and $5 for Students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.AUBTix.com, by phone at 1-855-AUB-2010 and in person at the Auburn Arena ticket box office.
"It is exciting to be able to open the WNIT at Auburn Arena because it is a place we have had so much success this year," said Williams-Flournoy. "We have had great fan support all year long and that played a big part in our 12-3 record at home. We need our fans to get their tickets and come back out because we need an electric atmosphere for some postseason play in Auburn Arena."
Auburn is 8-2 all-time in the WNIT with previous appearances in 2003, 2007 and 2011. The Tigers won the WNIT in 2003 under Joe Ciampi and advanced to the second round in their last appearance in 2011 under Nell Fortner.

"We are really looking forward to playing in the WNIT," said Williams-Flournoy. "Making the postseason in our first season here at Auburn was a goal of ours and this will be a great experience for our players as we continue to build this program back to where it should be.
"You cannot simulate the tournament atmosphere and what it means to play for a championship and we are excited that our young ladies will have that opportunity."
For Williams-Flournoy, this is her fifth postseason appearance in nine seasons as a head coach and her second WNIT appearance. She led Georgetown to the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2011 and 2012 after making a WNIT Quarterfinal appearance in 2009.
Auburn has played UAB once before on the WNIT, defeating the Blazers 74-60 at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum in the first round of the 2007 WNIT. The last meeting between Auburn and UAB was a 91-62 win on Nov. 26, 2008 in Birmingham. The Tigers hold a 29-4 all-time series lead over the Blazers.
Auburn is one of four Southeastern Conference teams in the WNIT field, joining Arkansas, Florida and Missouri. Including the NCAA Tournament, 11 SEC members were selected for postseason play on Monday with Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt in the NCAA Tournament.
