(DOTHAN) Alex Thompson's original plan was to go back to his home state of Florida and play for Stetson. The true freshman walk-on is now on scholarship.
The Houston Academy standout was informed by Coach Barbee while in a team meeting that he had earned himself a scholarship.
On Saturday Thompson stepped up by playing 22 big minutes against #21 Missouri.
Just minutes before the game the Tigers announced reserve forward Chris Griffin had been suspended for a violation of school policy.
Thompson finished with 8 points and two points. Although it may not seem like a stat sheet-filler and Auburn lost a close game, 70-68, Thompson had done enough to earn a scholarship.
He took to twitter Tuesday night tweeting:
"Your boy is no longer a walk on!!! #WDE"
The Tigers are in Knoxville to play Tennessee Wednesday night.
