MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Auburn made one costly mistake Wednesday and Alabama took advantage to pick up its first win ever at the Capital City Classic.
Routine plays were not always routine at Riverwalk Stadium, and the Tigers found out the hard way with two outs in the ninth inning.
Auburn third baseman Connor Short misjudged a throw to first and overthrew Keegan Thompson, allowing Georgie Salem to score from third on what would have been an inning-ending play. Alabama grabbed the 4-3 lead and held on to snap a five-game losing streak to the Tigers in front of 6,141 fans at Riverwalk Stadium.
