Alabama, Auburn women's programs might be on rise

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- There's reason for optimism about the once-prominent Auburn and Alabama women's basketball programs after landing coaches who are energetic recruiters with winning track records.

The Crimson Tide brought in former Purdue and Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry in May. Curry has already added a pair of players to the incoming signing class.

Terri Williams-Flournoy has had her first full year of recruiting after a 19-15 debut season.

The Tide hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 1999. Curry says Alabama has "got to get better in every aspect of the program."

Auburn went to three consecutive national title games from 1988-90 under Hall of Fame coach Joe Ciampi.

Williams-Flournoy says fans are already "telling us they can't wait for the season to start."
