AUBURN, Ala. – As Auburn coaches hit the recruiting trail last spring, many of the top players in the South delivered a consistent message. They were interested, but they wanted to see how the Tigers played with a new head coach in Gus Malzahn and a new coaching staff.

As the season unfolded, they got their answer. Auburn went 12-1, won the Southeastern Conference championship and will play Florida State in the BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 6 at the Rose Bowl.

Wednesday, that success translated into recruiting success when four of the nation’s top junior college prospects signed with the Tigers.

Dameyune Craig landed D’haquille Williams, a 5-star wide receiver and the nation’s top overall junior prospect, out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Charlie “Cheese” Harbison landed 4-star safety Derrick Moncrief from the same school.

Rodney Garner flipped 4-star Georgia Miliatary Institute defensive end DaVonte Lambert from Tennessee.

J.B. Grimes and Scott Fountain lured 3-star offensive lineman Xavier Dampeer from Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss.

Williams, Harbison and Lambert are all ranked No. 1 at their positions among junior college prospects. Dampeer is the No. 1 center.

Here’s what Malzahn had to say about each player:

On Williams: “He is a dymanic player that can run, catch and do all the things it takes to be a great receiver.”

On Lambert: “DaVonte is a dynamic playmaker on the defensive side of the ball who has the ability to rush the quarterback and play tough against the run.”

On Dampeer: “He has the ability to play center and guard. He is a big, strong kid.”

On Moncrief: “He is a big guy that can tackle and has good cover skills.”
