TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Zach Mettenberger and AJ McCarron are armed for another duel.
No. 1 Alabama's quarterback McCarron and No. 10 LSU's Mettenberger head into Saturday night's meeting as two of the few remaining drop-back passers in the Southeastern Conference.
Both have been thriving. They're two of the SEC's three most efficient passers and had a compelling showdown in last year's meeting.
That's when McCarron threw a last-minute touchdown pass to pull out the victory for Alabama. He's 33-2 as a starter and Mettenberger says there's no denying "he's a winner."
Mettenberger has been putting up even bigger numbers for the Tigers. He's behind only Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel in passing yards and efficiency. He's 8 yards away from becoming the first LSU quarterback to pass for 2,500 yards in consecutive seasons.
