Gene Stallings Visits Dothan

Alabama fans and Wiregrass residents were treated with a Crimson Tide legend this evening.

Former Bama head coach Gene Stallings is in town today to attend the Wiregrass football fest at the Dothan Civic Center. Stallings will give a speech reflecting on his life and career. We got a chance to talk with the famous coach and asked him about some major topics in the college football world today. The SEC is certainly a tough conference now, but was it just as tough back when he coached?

"I thought it was. We all thought the era that we were coaching in was tough. You know when you play Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Mississippi and now South Carolina, it's just a tough conference."

Coach Stallings was actually on the board of regents at Texas A&M and had a hand in bringing the Aggies to the SEC. The question is, how does he feel about seeing A&M against his former team, the tide?

"I did tell them this, I said you wear long britches when you go down to play in that league. Those boys play for keeps. I will assure you that Texas A&M is going to need a lot more help than Alabama. You ask me who I cheer for and I say Texas A&M.
