Alabama Self Reports 27 Secondary Violations to NCAA

By Andrew Gribble/Tuscaloosa Bureau, Mobile Press-Register, Birmingham News, and The Huntsville Times

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- The University of Alabama athletic department has reported 27 NCAA secondary violations since July 4, 2011, according to documents released Tuesday on the compliance department's website.

The Crimson Tide men's basketball team had the most of any of Alabama's 19 varsity sports with six. Four of the six, though, involved impermissible text messages, a rule that was overturned in June.

Eleven of the department's 27 violations were for impermissible text messages.
