For five-star quarterback David Cornwell, committing to Alabama was a major moment in his life and career. It was also one that felt fairly inevitable.
"Alabama just always felt like home," Cornwell said. "I visited six times in all and I liked it more every time I visited. Coach Saban was probably what sealed the deal. He told me everything I needed to hear and he made me feel like I was special to him and to Alabama."
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound signal caller, rated the nation's No. 1 pro-style passer by 247Sports, committed to the Crimson Tide on Friday while making a last-minute visit to Tuscaloosa following a multi-day trip to Virginia Tech. Cornwell said he hadn't planned on committing while in Tuscaloosa, but after meeting with head coach Nick Saban he felt there was no need for further deliberation.
"I really wanted to go one more time before I made my final decision. I got there, spoke to Coach Saban and at about lunchtime I told him I was committing, shook his hand and headed back to Oklahoma. Alabama was always on top for me even though I felt pretty good about Virginia Tech and to a lesser extent Tennessee."
