TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida State has extended athletic director Randy Spetman's contract into 2014.
President Eric Barron said Wednesday the university has enjoyed unprecedented success across the board in athletics during Spetman's tenure, along with academic success in the student-athlete ranks. Barron also said the former Air Force bomber pilot received an outstanding evaluation earlier this year.
The terms of the one-year extension are the same as in Spetman's existing contract although bonus opportunities were increased if the school remains in the top 10 nationally in the directors' cup, which signifies excellence in the overall athletic program. He will also receive a higher bonus if the athletes achieve an overall 3.0 grade point average.
Barron said he has tasked Spetman with developing a strategic vision for the department along with an associated budget.
