Wetumpka's Golden named Mr. Football

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Wetumpka quarterback Jamal Golden is
Alabama's Mr. Football.

The Alabama Sports Writers Association gave Golden the award
presented by Hibbett Sports on Wednesday at the
Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.

The 6-foot, 185-pound quarterback led the Indians to the Class
6A quarterfinals. He was named the Class 6A Back of the Year by the
ASWA and also earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors after
accounting for 3,477 yards of offense and 37 touchdowns.

Golden finished with 222 points in the vote by the ASWA football
committee. Spanish Fort offensive lineman Reese Dismukes edged out
Russellville running back Brent Calloway for second with a 190-184
vote. Leeds defensive back Jonathan Rose was fourth with 145 points
and Leroy wide receiver Sammie Coates was fifth with 141.
