First-year Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin,whose Aggies joined the SEC along with Missouri this year, announced Wednesday that redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel will start the season-opener Aug. 30 against Louisiana Tech, according to the Dallas Morning News.

"Johnny has performed the best at this stage and we will proceed until the season-opener with him getting the first-team reps," Sumlin told the Morning News. "My policy is simple really; the best player plays."
