COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina starting pitcher Colby Holmes will miss the Alabama series after injuring his arm in practice.
Team spokesman Andrew Kitick said Holmes would not go in his scheduled start against the Crimson Tide on Saturday at Carolina Stadium. Gamecocks coach Ray Tanner said Holmes suffered a "freak" injury at workouts Wednesday.
Holmes is 6-0 with a 3.29 earned-run average in 10 starts this year. Kitick said there is no word yet on who will replace Holmes against Alabama.
Kitick said Holmes' injury would be re-evaluated next week.
The Gamecocks (30-11) have won eight straight Southeastern Conference games entering the series against Alabama (17-25).
