AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- The Auburn Tigers have undergone major changes since last season.

The Tigers approach the season opener against Clemson with two new coordinators, no Mike Dyer and an uncertain quarterback situation. They're trying to improve on an 8-5 season that ended with an impressive bowl win over Virginia, but wasn't a strong follow-up to a national championship.

Quarterbacks Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley are battling well into preseason camp for the starting nod. Tailbacks Tre Mason and Onterio McCalebb take over the backfield without two-time 1,000-yard rusher Dyer, who left the team in January.

New offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler brought back the huddle after replacing Gus Malzahn. Brian VanGorder takes over the defense fresh from the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

The defense returns nine starters and the offense seven.
