TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy
won't be able to throw at the NFL combine because of an injury to
his throwing hand.

McElroy was initially diagnosed with a fractured bone after
hitting his hand on a teammate's helmet during the Senior Bowl last
Saturday. He told The Tuscaloosa News in a story Tuesday that he
had it examined again by a hand specialist in Scottsdale, Ariz.,
and that he might have only a deep bruise.

McElroy doesn't think he'll have to have surgery, but is hoping
for a more definitive diagnosis by week's end.

He finished the possession after his injury before heading to
the sideline.

McElroy says he's hoping to be ready in time for Alabama's pro
day on-campus workout and is hoping it can be pushed back to late
