STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, his
players, students and fans gathered on the school's campus Thursday
night to mourn the loss of Nick Bell.

Bell, a 20-year-old sophomore defensive end for the Bulldogs,
died Tuesday after a short but harsh battle with cancer. He played
against Georgia on Sept. 25, but then began experiencing headaches
and had surgery less than a week later to remove a large mass from
his brain.

During the campus memorial service, Bell's former teammates and
roommates, Kendrick Cook and Charles Mitchell, shared stories about
living with Bell. Both said he was never one to complain, and he
never let on how sick he was.

The 21st-ranked Bulldogs are off this weekend and travel to face
Alabama next Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
