Former University of South Alabama student-athlete Lindsay Schwartz recorded a new career-high point total in the heptathlon on her way to an eighth-place finish on day two of the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium Friday.
Schwartz improved her personal-best time in the 800-meter run by more than two seconds when she clocked in at 2:12.48. That time was good for eighth place overall and won her 929 points; it also marked her third PR of the week in a running event.
Schwartz's highest finish of the week came in the javelin throw, where she posted a mark of 39.92m on her way to second place in the 17-woman field, an effort which earned her 666 points.
In the long jump, Schwartz recorded a 5.85m leap on her second attempt, placing 10th in the event while collecting 804 points.
All told, Schwartz compiled 5,910 points in the seven events to finish in eighth place. Her total marked an improvement of 265 points over her previous career-high tally of 5,645 points, which came at the Panamerican Combined Events Cup in Ottawa, Canada, earlier this month.
Schwartz entered the day in seventh place overall after earning 3,511 points and recording PRs in both the 100-meter hurdles (13.61) and the 200-meter dash (24.18) Thursday.
