Mizzou All-American defensive lineman Michael Sam has announced he is gay. Sam came out in interviews with ESPN's "Outside the Lines" and the New York Times on Sunday.
The former Tiger is eligible for the NFL draft in May. If he is indeed drafted, Sam could become the first openly gay player in NFL history.
Sam says he came out to his Missouri teammates back in August. He says they rallied around him and supported him.
His decision to share his sexual orientation comes after his experience at the Senior Bowl. He says many already seemed aware of his sexual orientation. Sam wanted to tell his story before it got leaked.
