Auburn third baseman Kasey Cooper is one of three finalists for the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Freshman of the Year award.

The former Dothan Tiger excelled in her rookie season. Cooper hit a team-best .418 and set a new school record with 18 home runs in a single season. She ranked second on the team with 77 RBI. Auburn boasted the SEC's best offense. Cooper scored 70 runs for the Tigers. She finished sixth in the conference in slugging at .780 and fifth in the conference in on-base percentage at .527.

Under first year head coach Clint Myers, Cooper helped the team reach the NCAA tournament. The Tigers fell one game short of reaching the program's first-ever Super Regional.

Tennessee's Annie Aldrete and Notre Dame's Karley Wester are the other two finalists. The award will be presented prior to the start of the Women's College World Series on May 17.
