BRONX, N.Y. - The Alabama softball team was tripped up in its final regular season contest of the year as it fell to Fordham, 8-5, Monday night at Murphy Field. After the loss the Crimson Tide moves to 47-7 while the Rams improve to 31-24.

Despite outhitting Fordham, 12-7, Alabama was unable to retake the lead in a back-and-forth game, bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning. The win for Fordham was its first over a ranked opponent on its home field in school history.

Junior Courtney Conley led the Tide with three hits while senior Amanda Locke and sophomores Kaila Hunt and Ryan Iamurri tallied two hits apiece.

Freshman Leslie Jury was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs on four hits in four innings. Locke allowed two runs on three hits in two innings of relief.

Fordham ace Jen Mineau allowed five runs on 10 hits before leaving the game with an injury after tossing 4 1/3 innings. Taylor Pirone (4-5) earned the win on the strength of 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Alabama opened the scoring with a single run in the first inning. After a leadoff walk and a stolen base by junior Kayla Braud, senior Amanda Locke moved her over to third and then sophomore Kaila Hunt drove her home on a first pitch single to left. The RBI was her team-leading 55th on the year.

The Tide then powered its way to three runs in the third inning. Locke drilled a double off the wall in left on the 12th pitch of the at-bat to drive in Braud and then Hunt promptly smashed a two-run homer well over the wall in center to give Alabama a 4-0 lead.

Fordham had an answer though as it scored four runs in the bottom of the third. After scoring a run on a base loaded fielder's choice, Gabby Luety hit a three-run home run to tie the game at four.

Alabama reclaimed the lead when sophomore Ryan Iamurri scored on a passed ball to move give the Tide a 5-4 lead.

The Rams then took its first lead of the contest when Jamie Labovick hit a two-run home run in the fifth to move the score to 6-5.

Fordham secured the game in the sixth inning when Brianna Turgeon hit a two-run home run to left to move the score to the final margin of 8-5.

Alabama will return home to host the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The Tide, tabbed as the No. 1 seed will host Mississippi State on Thursday, May 10, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN.
