Florida Loses Freshman Tight End Colin Thompson for Two Months

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida tight end Colin Thompson will have surgery to insert a screw in his right foot, an injury that could sideline him at least two months.

The 6-foot-4 freshman from Warminster, Pa., had been expected to play a key role for the 23rd-ranked Gators this season. Making matters worse at the position, Jordan Reed has missed the last week of practice with a knee injury.

Coach Will Muschamp says Thompson's injury is "unfortunate and disappointing." Thompson had an initial surgery in the spring, but Muschamp says his ankle didn't heal properly.

In other injury news, linebacker Lerentee McCray (shoulder) is expected to return to practice early this week, and backup offensive tackle D.J. Humphries will miss at least two weeks with a sprained knee ligament.
